Designated Marksmen operate on a unit level to answer this dilema between standard riflemen and snipers. Although the popular M14 has proved adequate in terms of accuracy, it has its limitations; without the ability to mount standard accessories like flashlights, lasers, optics, or a bi-pod.
The next logical step was the addition of a Rail System to the trusty M14. Aside from being able to mount numerous different accessories, the M14 EBR has a retractable stock that allows the user to adjust for the length of pull, which is important, especially if the user is wearing body armor.
